Sabah Theological Seminary (STS) is located on Signal Hill, Kota Kinabalu. It is an interdenominational seminary that offers a wide range of Christian academic and practical
courses to train people to be pastors and community leaders to enable graduates to
contribute to socio-economic development in rural communities.
Due to the frequent rain this year, the slopes surrounding the STS campus had suffered
serious slips that would eventually affect the safety of the infrastructure and buildings of
the campus. After investigation, it would require more than 2 million to do the remedial
works for the failed slopes.
The principal of STS, Dr. Thu En Yu and Bishop James Wong of the Basel Christian Church of Malaysia approached the Chief Minister of Sabah YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Bin Haji Noor for a grant. The CM immediately sent his political secretary Datuk Dr. Roland Chia to look into the situation. Soon, the seminary received a generous grant of RM500,000 in May 2021.
“As a Christian community, we can testify to the fact that Sabah is a place of Unity in
Diversity, where the needs of every religious group are treated with urgency and support.
The quick response and the generous grant from the CM is evidence of the Malaysian
Family spirit in Sabah,” said Dr. Thu.
On behalf of STS and all the partner churches of STS, Bishop James Wong thanked the CM
and the Sabah state government for walking an extra mile in assisting STS in this very
challenging pandemic time.
STS will ever be grateful to friends, individuals, institutions and particularly to Wanita MCA
Sabah’s chairperson Datuk Dr. Pamela Yong, together with the local Community Leader
(PPM) for DUN N19 Likas, Dr. Chang Kee Ying who has applied for funds from the Ministry of National Unity. The ministry responded with a generous sum of RM150,000 to STS’s
predicament.
With the donations collected, the remedial work is scheduled to commence in November
2021 and will complete in 9 months.
