KOTA KINABALU: The Congress of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) next month will mark the resurgence of the party in the mainstream of Sabah politics after twelve years as an opposition party, said Datuk Richard Yong We Kong.
“Top of the agenda of issues at the Congress are economic recovery, participation of local Sabahans in Sabah’s economic development and political issues such as Sabah IC, MA63, ownership and management of Sabah’s natural resources.
All party posts, except the President are contested.
Richard, SAPP secretary-general said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) upcoming party election will also be a bustling event as all elected positions will be contested, except the President post.
“Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee retained his SAPP presidency unopposed when nominations closed yesterday,” announced Richard, SAPP secretary-general, in the 209th supreme council meeting held at the party’s headquarter, Likas, today.
Richard said the party will hold its Congress on 3 September 2022 at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), and followed by the party’s quadrennial election in the afternoon.
“The party’s elections committee will be making the necessary announcement on the party elections, number of candidates for each post, and the election calendar very soon.
“1600 members, including 250 Undi 18 members, and delegates are expected to attend the one-day Party Congress followed by a Fellowship Dinner at the same venue.
402 delegates comprising 29 members of the supreme council, 40 members of Youth and Women wings, and 355 representatives from branches throughout Sabah will be attending the Congress.-pr/BNN
