PENAMPANG:  United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Penampang Division has proposed building a mini skatepark as an alternative sports facility for young people in the area.

The suggestion was raised during a courtesy visit by a Pemuda UPKO delegation to Penampang Municipal Council (MPP) President  Noemi Dyena Johntren at Wisma MPP on May 5.

The group was led by Pemuda UPKO Penampang Division Chief Billy Joe Dominic, along with Secretary Michael Fadillah Riao, Treasurer Herman Amat, and other committee members.

They argued that a mini skatepark could serve as a platform for healthy activities and provide a safe community space to encourage positive youth engagement.

“Besides appealing to young people, this facility could also help reduce social ills among youth,” they said.

During the meeting, the delegation also highlighted the growing misuse of disabled (OKU) parking bays.

They stressed the need for stricter enforcement and greater public awareness to ensure these spaces are reserved for those who truly qualify.

Pemuda UPKO reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with MPP on youth development programmes, including sports and recreational activities.

These efforts are expected to strengthen ties between youth leaders and MPP, fostering more inclusive youth development and sustained progress in Penampang. -pr/BNN
