KOTA KINABALU: The State Government welcomed the Federal Youth and Sports Ministry’s commitment to bring more youth and sports development initiatives to Sabah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor said these Federal initiatives would complement the State Government’s efforts to develop human capital and sports in the state.
“Sports are also an important platform to nurture unity,” he said during a meeting with the Federal Youth and Sports Minister, Dr Muhammed Taufiq Johari, at Menara Kinabalu near here on Friday.
Also present were State Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan and Permanent Secretary Datuk Mansur Asun.
At the courtesy call, Dr Muhammed told the Chief Minister that his Ministry has earmarked several programmes for sports and youth development in Sabah.
He said Sabah has the potential to develop a niche market, particularly in sports tourism.
Dr Muhammed also commended Sabah for its strong commitment to sending a 200-strong contingent to support the national Youth Day, to be held in Negeri Sembilan in the middle of this month.-pr/BNN
