KOTA KINABALU: CIDB Malaysia is bolstering the nation’s digital transformation agenda within the construction industry through the launch of the strategic initiative, myBIM Satellite Sabah. The announcement was made during the “BIM Beyond Design: Towards Digital Construction in Borneo” programme at International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo 2026.
The event brought together construction industry leaders, technology specialists, BIM practitioners, contractors, consultants, and related organisations to discuss the future of digitalisation in the sector, with a particular focus on Sabah and Borneo.
CIDB Digital Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CIDB, will oversee the operation of myBIM Satellite Sabah, which aims to serve as a centre for BIM skills development and digital construction technologies. Located at the API-API Centre in Kota Kinabalu, the centre is scheduled to commence operations in October 2026, in collaboration with the Sabah Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBAS).
The centre will be equipped with:
• 19 high-performance computers
• The latest BIM software and digital construction tools
• Training and digital learning facilities tailored for the construction sector
CIDB Malaysia has invested RM1.2 million into this initiative, covering digital infrastructure, technological equipment, BIM software, and training facilities, all aimed at fostering digital competency growth within Sabah’s construction industry.
This initiative underscores CIDB Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to advancing the digitalisation of the national construction sector and broadening access to BIM and digital construction technologies, especially in Sabah and the wider Borneo region. The strategic investment is expected to accelerate the development of a robust digital construction ecosystem in Sabah, aligning with the nation’s Construction 4.0 ambitions.
The centre is poised to act as a catalyst for cultivating a skilled BIM workforce in Sabah and promoting the adoption of digital construction practices across Borneo.
CIDB Digital Chief Executive Officer, Sr Nazir Muhamad Nor, highlighted the significance of the project: “Sabah has immense potential to become a leader in Malaysia’s digital construction ecosystem. The establishment of myBIM Satellite Sabah will create more opportunities for skills development, training, and industry collaboration.”
The launch programme also featured technology-sharing sessions and industry insights on BIM, digital construction, e-submission, automated governance, and large-scale digital transformation.
This initiative aligns with the National Construction Policy 2030 (NCP 2030) and CIDB’s Construction Action Plan 2030 (CAP 2030), contributing to the development of a more sustainable, innovative, and competitive construction industry at both national and regional levels.-pr/BNN
