KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor advised people in Tawau, Kunak, Semporna and Lahad Datu to remain calm and follow instructions of the authorities in the wake of a tsunami warning following the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao, southern Philippines this morning.

The Chief Minister said the Disaster Management Commitee (JPBD) in the respective districts have been activated to handle the situation.

The Malaysia Meteorological Department has issued a statement that a 0.4 metre tsunami is expected to hit these districts from 10.30am until 12 noon today.

“It is important for the people to remain calm and always adhere to the instructions of the authorities,” said Hajiji.

He added the State Government through the Disaster Command Centre is monitoring the situation closely.-pr/BNN
