KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah chapter of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has announced that the highly anticipated MATTA Fair Sabah 2026 will take place from 18 to 20 September at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The event, held for the second time this year,  aims to stimulate the local tourism industry through a wide array of travel promotions, business opportunities, and community engagement.

The fair, recognised as East Malaysia’s premier travel exhibition, will feature over 150 booths operated by travel agencies, hotels, tourism operators, and community-based tourism initiatives. Visitors can look forward to exclusive holiday packages, competitive airfares, cruises, and specialised travel experiences, all under one roof.

Azlan Mohd Saleh, Organising Chairman of MATTA Fair Sabah 2026, expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s importance in supporting Sabah’s tourism growth.

“MATTA Fair Sabah is more than just a travel exhibition. It is a vital platform that generates business opportunities, supports employment, and contributes to Sabah’s economy,” he said. “Every booth at the fair adds value beyond travel agencies, hotels, transport providers, restaurants, and local communities all benefit from this gathering. We are committed to making Sabah a leading destination in Asia and ensuring sustainable tourism development.”

This year’s fair marks a return to hosting the event twice annually, following a successful edition in April. “We are determined and committed to holding the fair twice this year because the response in April was very encouraging,” Azlan added.

“This will allow us to expand opportunities and promote Sabah’s attractions more effectively, especially as we approach the launch of Visit Sabah 2027.”

The event also aligns with broader campaigns such as Malaysia Year of Tourism and Explore Sabah 2027. MATTA Sabah has pledged to collaborate with government agencies and industry stakeholders to reinforce Sabah’s position on the international tourism map.

In addition to promoting tourism, the fair will feature special contests, where visitors spending RM100 or more at the event can participate to win exciting prizes. The organisers also expressed appreciation to their partners, including RHB Bank, which provides exclusive financial services and promotions, and Malaysia Airlines Group, supporting travel connectivity.

Azlan emphasised the importance of community involvement, stating, “We want to introduce community-based tourism products and provide local operators with a platform to showcase Sabah’s rich culture and natural beauty.”

MATTA Fair Sabah 2026 is set to be a key event for anyone planning their next holiday, offering a comprehensive range of travel deals and experiences. Organisers invite families, young travellers, corporate clients, and holidaymakers to visit the fair and take advantage of the exceptional promotions.

“Whether you’re planning a short trip or a dream overseas holiday, you will find incredible options here,” Azlan concluded. “Join us in making Sabah the top destination in Asia.”

Also present during the event were MATTA Sabah Chapter Members including Chairman Sabah Chapter Alex Chong and Chai Chei Rong MATTA Fair Sabah, Secretary as well as representatives from RHB Bank.-BNN
