MANILA : Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports Phoong Jin Zhe expressed his happiness after Sabahan athlete Sazzlan Yuga snatched a Gold medal in the Pencak Silat Ganda Putra together with his duo partner Taqiyuddin Hamid in SEA Games 2019.

This made Sazzlan the first Sabahan to win the gold medal for Malaysia.

Phoong congratulated him personally after he heard the good news from Subic. He visited four Sabahan Silat athletes at Subic earlier.

Phoong who is currently having working visit in Manila, Philippines had paid visits to different sports venues in Manila and Subic respectively and gave moral support to Sabahan athletes.

On the other hand, Phoong also watched Women Floorball game where one Sabahan Chriyenterl Marcus is among the players. The girls won Bronze Medal for Malaysia after an intensive match against Philippines. Malaysia defeated Philippines by 1-0.

To date, Sabah have one gold and one bronze medalist in SEA Games.

Phoong said on behalf of Sabahans, he is very proud of all the performance and achievements of Sabahan athletes. He added, “I’m sure all Sabahans are rooting for our athletes who are fighting for nation’s pride in the Philippines.”

He also presented RM1000 as token of appreciation by the state government to all Sabahan athletes in recognition of their dedication and sportsmanship.-pr/BNN
