SANDAKAN:  An entertaining comedy theatre by Sanggar Cendana Production proudly presents “Haji Bakhil”, a family comedy set in the 1960s filled with laughter, social satire, and unexpected plot twists. Adapted from Molière’s classic work and directed by Shazalee Osman, the performance features talented students from the Malaysia Sabah School of Arts, offering the audience a nostalgic journey through a colourful and educational story.

Organised to provide a practical platform for students to apply their acting skills, hone their talents on stage, and revive societal values through theatre, this production aims to go beyond mere entertainment. It offers secondary school students real-stage experience, allowing them to practice technical, acting, and management skills learnt in the classroom.

The event also promotes the preservation of cultural morals and values, encouraging society to return to a golden age of art characterised by manners and noble principles. Through satire and subtle lessons embedded in dialogue, the theatre serves as a mirror to society and a tool for education.

Production Manager Puan Hasnia Bakre expressed her pride in the students’ dedication and effort, explaining that the comedy genre was chosen because it appeals to all ages and makes social messages more accessible. She highlighted that light-hearted humour combined with social critique ensures the production is an inclusive family event. Head of Theatre Nurain Lambertus Guna Hala also urged the public to support these young talents, inviting everyone to fill the theatre with enthusiasm when the curtain rises on 27 July 2026, at the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Sandakan at 8:00 PM.

Tickets are priced at only RM15, and early bookings are encouraged to avoid disappointment. This theatrical event promises a memorable night of laughter, nostalgia, and meaningful lessons, supporting the future of our young artistes.-pr/BNN
