NABAWAN: The construction of the Nabawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) and Police Housing represents a strategic investment by the government in strengthening security capabilities, law enforcement and service delivery to the people, particularly in the Nabawan district and its surrounding areas, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He said the project, with an allocation ceiling of RM150 million, is expected to begin in January 2027.
“I want this project to be implemented with the highest level of integrity, in compliance with the stipulated specifications and standards, while ensuring maximum benefits for the people and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel.
“We do not merely want to see this project completed, but also to ensure that the facilities provide long-term benefits,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nabawan District Police Headquarters and Police Housing project here.
Also present were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Haji Ismail, State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman and Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.
The Chief Minister said the construction of the Nabawan District Police Headquarters was particularly important given the district’s strategic location bordering Indonesia, which required stronger security capabilities to address cross-border crime and illegal activities.
He said these threats called for integrated, effective and sustained enforcement measures, including strengthening the PDRM’s capabilities in terms of personnel, infrastructure, operational facilities and administrative systems.
He said the Nabawan Police Station, established in 1976, currently came under the administration of the Keningau District Police Headquarters, despite Nabawan covering an administrative area of approximately 6,089 square kilometres.
“Given the size of the district, there is a clear need for a more structured policing system that meets present-day security requirements.
“The development of the Nabawan District Police Headquarters is an important step towards strengthening the police presence and policing capabilities in the area,” he said.
Hajiji said the project also reflected the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, comfort and safety of frontline personnel.
“Providing conducive infrastructure equipped with the latest technological facilities is no longer a luxury but a critical necessity, particularly in border areas,” he said.
Hajiji also stressed that security is a fundamental pillar of the state’s development, as sustainable economic growth cannot be achieved without a peaceful, stable, and secure environment.
In this regard, he said the State Government would continue to support efforts to strengthen security infrastructure throughout Sabah, including ensuring that people in interior areas such as Nabawan had access to better security services.
He said the development of the district police headquarters was strategically significant as it would not only meet the operational needs of the PDRM but also strengthen public confidence in security within their communities.
“We want the people of Nabawan to feel assured that their safety, welfare and well-being are always given due attention.
“At the same time, the welfare of PDRM personnel must also remain a priority. They are at the forefront of maintaining peace and public order.
“Therefore, providing proper working facilities and housing is essential to supporting their welfare and ensuring they can carry out their duties effectively,” he said.-pr/BNN
