KOTA KINABALU: Maxim Malaysia has extended its university food bank initiative to three higher education institutions: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Cyberjaya College and UNITAR International University.

As part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, Maxim distributed food packages to help students meet their daily needs and strengthen its engagement with the higher education community.

At UMS, 200 students received food packages to help ease the cost of living while pursuing their studies. The initiative was then extended to Cyberjaya College in Kota Kinabalu and UNITAR International University, with a further 400 students benefiting—200 from each institution.

The packages included essential food items such as Milo, Nestum, instant noodles, canned sardines and biscuits. The distributions were held in collaboration with the institutions. Desi Eka Sapta Ahmad, Head of the Student Experiences and Support Department, represented Cyberjaya College, while Mohd Rafi Pide, Head of Student Affairs, represented UNITAR International University.

In total, the three initiatives provided food assistance to approximately 600 students, reaffirming Maxim’s commitment to student welfare and its partnerships with higher education institutions.

“This kind of assistance directly eases some of the financial pressure on students who must balance their studies with the cost of living. We hope the collaboration will continue and encourage other organisations to support student welfare,” said Mohamad Furkhan bin Abdullah, caretaker of the Department of Student Welfare, Student Representative Council of UMS (2025/2026).

Beyond providing food assistance, Maxim aims to build meaningful, long-term relationships with higher education institutions through community engagement. The company also seeks to raise awareness of its e-hailing services among students, highlighting the Maxim app as a convenient transport option for their daily journeys.

“University students are building their futures, and financial difficulties can make that journey more challenging. We hope this assistance reminds them that they do not have to face these challenges alone. Our relationships with educational institutions are important to us, and we intend to continue working together on initiatives that benefit students,” said Mohd Hazwan Musley, Director of Maxim Malaysia.

Maxim Malaysia will continue to explore opportunities to work with educational institutions and local communities on initiatives focused on student welfare, road safety awareness, social support and inclusive development.-pr/BNN
