KOTA KINABALU : An elephant injured by snare trap was found and rescued in Taliwas, Lahad Datu.

The young male elephant, aged seven to nine years old, had snare trap injuries on its front right leg

Wildlife Rescue Unit from the Sabah Wildlife Department managed to capture it for treatment on Tuesday afternoon.

The snare trap caused a 2-inch deep wound on the leg which was infested with maggots at the area of the knot.

According  to a statement  by Siti Nurain of Sabah Wildlife Department general treatments have been given to the elephant and  topical wound management will continue.

Its general condition such as hydration and appetite will be observed as the injury still needs time to fully heal.

The elephant will be transferred to Borneo Elephant Sanctuary for further treatment and observation.-pr/BNN
