KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) agrees and fully supports Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor’s recent decision and announcement of the Sabah’s Recovery Plan implementation to allow selected social and economic activities in Sabah to open.
The federal government should take into consideration the current situation of Sabah which is not in the category of states that record high daily infection rates.
Sabah has our own distinct population density, and geographical district boundaries, different as compared to the states in the peninsula. Moreover, Sabah is separated from the peninsula by the wide expanse of the South China Sea.
Many Sabah districts with lower population densities are recording very few to no new cases for weeks, and even for months amidst ongoing vaccine inoculation program. Thus there should not be a “one size fits all” SOP rigidly applied to all states and regions in the whole of Malaysia.
In fact, in April and again in May this year the Director General of Medical Services, Datuk Noor Hisham, himself once praised “Sabah exemplary in curbing Covid-19”. He was comparing the success of Sabah in combating the pandemic with other states.
Moreover, we must not forget that in accordance with MA63, and based on the PM’s announcement in Sarawak a few months ago, Sabah and Sarawak are regions/provinces (Wilayah) and not simply a state like in peninsula Malaysia.-pr/BNN
SAPP reminds the federal government of its promises, MA63 and autonomy”, said SAPP President, holding a copy of the GRS Manifesto that was launched by the Prime Minister on 16 September 2020 at Kota Kinabalu
