KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has welcomed the announcement of Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi, that the Chinese government would expedite Malaysian students’ return to China, for them to resume their study there.
This includes increasing the number of direct flights between China and Malaysia.
Huazong President Tan Sri T.C Goh also hoped that Malaysia and China could lift the Covid-19 restrictions, to allow bilateral trade and tourism activities to resume, as soon as possible.
He acknowledged that speedy resumption of bilateral activities physically, between the two nations in the three key sectors, is much anticipated by the governments and people of the two countries.
Goh who is also a director of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) cum chairman of its Bilateral Policies expressed this in a statement issued today, while responding to the positive comments made by Wang, who is on a two-day official visit to Malaysia since Monday (July 11).
Wang among others had said China will make an early arrangement for the first group of Malaysian students to return to China and resume their study at an early date to help them achieve a dream of their life.
He said both sides also planned for a significant increase in the number of direct flights between China and Malaysia that is consistent with the aspiration of the people of both countries.
Goh thus hoped that such moves could be implemented soon.
He said, since the Covid-19 pandemic has come under better control now, besides bilateral trade, tourism and education sectors, there are also other important aspects and sectors which the two countries could collaborate in, such as pandemic control and prevention, vaccine development, science and technology, international issues, etc.
He acknowledged that since establishing bilateral relations in 1974, the bond between Malaysia and China has grown from strength to strength in the last 46 years, especially following the elevation of Malaysia-China relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2013, when China’s President Xi Jinping conducted an official visit to Malaysia. Next year, the two countries will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Besides this, Goh also welcomed Wang’s invitation for Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to visit China, which His Majesty reciprocated by inviting President Xi Jinping to visit Malaysia. Goh hoped that such important diplomatic visits of the two supreme leaders could materialize, after this.
“Our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob too has during the courtesy call by Wang Yi today, expressed his plan to conduct an official visit to China, which is warmly welcomed by both China’s President Xi Jinping and Chinese premier Li Keqiang,” he noted.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) acknowledged that such an important diplomatic visit of the supreme leaders of the two nations would further elevate bilateral relations between the two countries, and is certainly most welcomed by the people of the two nations.-pr/BNN
