KOTA KINABALU: The Muslim World League (MWL) successfully carried out the Ramadhan Food Basket Distribution Programme in Sabah from 12–13 February 2026, as part of its humanitarian initiatives for Ramadhan 1447H.
The MWL delegation was led by Dr Mohammed Ahmed Gharawi, Director of Muslim World League Malaysia, accompanied by representatives from MWL Headquarters in Makkah:
• Ahmed Abdulwahab Khalil, Administrative Specialist – Office of the Deputy for Relief, Care & Development
• Hossam Youssef Ezzeldin Mohamed, Systems Analyst – Office of the Deputy Minister for Relief, Care & Development
During the two-day visit to Kota Kinabalu, the delegation distributed food baskets containing essential basic food supplies to underprivileged families in several targeted locations across Sabah.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit and held discussions with the Mufti of Sabah to strengthen institutional cooperation in matters related to community welfare and religious affairs. In addition, strategic meetings were conducted with several local non-governmental organisations, including Pertubuhan Islam Seluruh Sabah (USIA) and Hidayah Centre Foundation, focusing on coordinated humanitarian outreach and structured assistance programmes for vulnerable communities in Sabah.
A notable highlight of the programme was the involvement of Malaysian celebrity Atu Zero, who actively participated in the distribution activities. His presence helped amplify community engagement and raise public awareness regarding the importance of collective responsibility in supporting families in need during Ramadhan.
Beyond the distribution exercise, the visit served as a platform for in-depth discussions on potential long-term collaboration between MWL and local stakeholders. The parties explored strategic areas where MWL could further contribute, including food security assistance, educational support, capacity-building initiatives, and sustainable welfare programmes for underserved communities in Sabah.
The Muslim World League reaffirms its commitment to strengthening humanitarian partnerships in Malaysia and ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need, particularly in regions facing socio-economic challenges.-pr/BNN
