KOTA KINABALU: CIDB Malaysia is reinforcing the country’s digital transformation agenda within the construction sector through the launch of the strategic initiative, myBIM Satellite Sabah. The announcement was made during the “BIM Beyond Design: Towards Digital Construction in Borneo” programme at International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo 2026.
This event brought together key industry players, technology experts, BIM practitioners, contractors, consultants, and related institutions to discuss the future of digitalisation in construction, particularly across Sabah and Borneo.
CIDB Digital Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of CIDB, will oversee the operation of myBIM Satellite Sabah, serving as a centre for BIM competency development and the promotion of digital construction technologies. Located at the API-API Centre in Kota Kinabalu, the centre is scheduled to commence operations in October 2026, in collaboration with the Sabah Bumiputera Contractors Association (PKBAS).
The facility will be equipped with 19 high-performance computers, the latest BIM software, and advanced digital construction technologies. It will also feature dedicated training and digital learning spaces tailored to the needs of the construction industry.
CIDB Malaysia has invested RM1.2 million into this initiative, covering digital infrastructure, technological equipment, BIM software, and training facilities aimed at fostering digital competency growth within Sabah’s construction sector.
This initiative underscores CIDB Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to advancing the digitalisation of the national construction industry and expanding access to BIM and digital construction technologies, especially in Sabah and the wider Borneo region. The strategic investment is expected to accelerate the development of a robust digital construction ecosystem in Sabah, aligning with the nation’s Construction 4.0 aspirations.
The centre is poised to catalyse the growth of a skilled BIM workforce in Sabah and promote the adoption of digital construction practices across Borneo.
CIDB Digital Chief Executive Officer, Sr Nazir Muhamad Nor, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Sabah has tremendous potential to become a leader in Malaysia’s digital construction ecosystem. The establishment of myBIM Satellite Sabah will open up more opportunities for competency development, training, and industry collaboration.”
The launch event also featured technology-sharing sessions and industry insights on BIM, digital construction, e-submission, automated governance, and large-scale digital transformation.
This initiative is aligned with the National Construction Policy 2030 (NCP 2030) and the CIDB Construction Action Plan 2030 (CAP 2030), contributing to the development of a more sustainable, innovative, and competitive construction industry at both national and regional levels.-pr/BNN
