KOTA KINABALU : Inspector General of Projects Sabah Sabah (MenPro), Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Salleh Said Keruak, said his immediate priority following his appointment is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges affecting the implementation of development projects across the state.
He said preliminary observations indicate that several recurring issues have contributed to project delays, including weaknesses in planning, administrative bottlenecks, limited contractor capacity, rising construction costs, and coordination challenges among various agencies and stakeholders.
According to Salleh, understanding the root causes of delays is a crucial first step before effective solutions can be implemented.
“The approach we are taking is not about assigning blame to any party. Instead, it is about identifying existing challenges, understanding the factors contributing to delays, and helping to find practical solutions,” he said in a Facebook post.
Salleh, who is also the Sabah UMNO Treasurer, said every identified issue must be addressed firmly and promptly to ensure affected projects can proceed according to plan.
“If a problem can be resolved, we must act immediately.
However, if a project continues to be stalled despite various efforts, difficult decisions may have to be made.
“The priority must be to ensure that projects are completed in the interest of the people,” he said.
He also stressed that Sabah’s development agenda requires commitment, cooperation, transparency and accountability from all parties involved.
According to him, a strong spirit of teamwork is essential to ensure development projects are implemented more effectively, efficiently and deliver maximum benefits to the people of Sabah.
Salleh said the successful implementation of development projects depends not only on the allocation of funds, but also on the ability of all stakeholders to work together in overcoming challenges that arise throughout the project implementation process.-pr/BNN
