TAWAU: The participation of delegates from several countries outside Malaysia, alongside local participants, in the Tawau International Cultural Festival (FKAT) further strengthens Tawau’s role as a border town rich in cultural diplomacy and regional cooperation.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, said this also demonstrates that FKAT has established itself as a prestigious event and successfully attracting widespread interest at both the national and international levels.
“The cultural diversity we possess is our greatest strength, and this festival not only showcases the unique identity of our communities but also serves as a symbol of the strong unity among the state’s multi-ethnic population.
“It is this uniqueness that has attracted participants from countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, and Indonesia to take part in the festival.
Undoubtedly, this will further strengthen Tawau’s position as one of the country’s dynamic and thriving cultural tourism destinations, one that continues to captivate visitors from across Malaysia and international tourists alike,” he said.
He said this when officiating the 11th Tawau International Cultural Festival 2026 here, on Saturday.
The Chief Minister said FKAT can serve as a major platform to highlight the rich cultural treasures of the state’s multi-ethnic communities.
“Culture is not just a historical legacy but also an asset that must be preserved for future generations. I am confident that this festival can bring a significant impact to Tawau’s tourism sector and local economy.
“The influx of domestic and international visitors during the festival is not only an opportunity for them to experience our rich cultural heritage but also brings economic benefits to many people indirectly.
“This includes entrepreneurs, homestay operators, artists, and small-scale traders,thereby contributing to the economic growth of the local community,” he said.
He said the State Government will organise more promotional activities, including community-based tourism initiatives and strengthened digital marketing campaigns, to attract a greater number of international tourists.
Cultural festivals such as this serve as one of the key platforms in supporting these efforts.
