KOTA KINABALU: Patients and caregivers at the Palliative Care Association of Kota Kinabalu (PCAKK) were treated to a lively pre-concert performance by the Australian Bruno Mars Tribute Show, bringing music and cheer to the centre.

Some 45 patients and caregivers attended the performance by the 11-piece group, with several patients clapping and dancing along.

The programme also saw the participation of Unduk Ngadau winners and finalists as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative, facilitated by Datin Mary Wong. The titleholders interacted with patients and distributed goodie bags and Ang Pows.

PCAKK President Dato’ Dr Jaswant Singh said the event was a meaningful reminder that palliative care extends beyond medical treatment.

“Seeing our patients smiling and enjoying the music means a great deal to us. These moments of joy are equally important in their journey,” he said.

PCAKK Advisor Datuk Margaret Lim said the pre-concert was organised to lift patients’ spirits and give them a memorable morning.

“We wanted our patients to feel celebrated, cared for and surrounded by warmth. To see them dancing, smiling and enjoying themselves was truly heartwarming,” she said.

The programme was led by Organising Chairman and Vice President Dr Mathan Mohan Rao, with support from the committee, staff and volunteers.

The Australian group will headline PCAKK’s 27th Annual Charity Dinner and Concert on 19 September 2026 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), alongside local artistes Rhowell Roland and Christal Ann Stephen.

The charity event aims to raise RM300,000 for PCAKK’s free home-based palliative care services. It will be graced by His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa bin Haji Aman, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, and Toh Puan Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Faridah binti Haji Tussin.

Established in 1998, PCAKK has provided free home-based palliative care to more than 6,000 patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

The Association thanked Kinabalu International Hotel for sponsoring refreshments, TCT Trading Sdn Bhd for sponsoring goodie bags, and Puan Sri Joanne Ho for sponsoring 50 Ang Pows.-pr/BNN
