KOTA KINABALU : Datuk Chee Chi Nyen (JP), a PKR member who was nearly nominated for last November’s state election, pleaded not guilty to a total of seven charges involving alleged cheating under the Penal Code.

The accused, represented by counsel Zahir Hussein, appeared before Sessions Court 2 here presided over by Judge Monica Linsua, on June 12.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutors Rohaiza Abd Rahman and Eugenie Meredith Gilbert.

Originally four charges under Section 420 of the Penal Code were filed in March 2026 across two case numbers and have since been amended. The amended charges were read to Datuk Chee, who denied the allegations.

Three additional charges were subsequently registered under case number BKI-62K-45-6/2026. Those charges were read to Datuk Chee, who again pleaded not guilty.

The court fixed bail at RM1,000,000 for each case, with a deposit of RM500,000 to be paid for each number. Each bail bond must be supported by two local sureties.

The prosecution applied for case BKI-62K-45-6/2026 to be heard together with cases BKI-62K-9-3/2026 and BKI-62K-10-3/2026.

Separately, the charges against another accused, Datuk Chee Chi Vun, were withdrawn following his death.

Consequently, case files BKI-62K-6-2/2026, BKI-62K-7-2/2026 and BKI-62K-8-2/2026 were struck out.

The matter was fixed for mention of the representation letter on 31 July 2026.
