KOTA KINABALU: Board of Directors and Members of Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung and Board of Administrators of Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung Haemodialysis Centre Charity Fund visited both Sabah Kidney Society and Persatuan Hemodialisis Kinabalu, Sabah recently to hand over a donation from the remaining fund of the Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung Haemodialysis Centre.

According to a statement released by the establishment, Sabah Kidney Society
received RM32,500 donation while Persatuan Hemodialisis Kinabalu, Sabah received RM100,000.

The Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung initiated a dialysis centre called Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung Haemodialysis Centre in year 1999 which was ceased in year 2011 due to the committee unable to fulfil with the new requirement by Ministry of Health to have a permanent Nephrologist in the dialysis centre since there is none in Tawau district.

The dialysis centre in Tawau had treated 28 patients back then where most of them now relocated to either the government hospital or other private dialysis centre to get dialysis treatment.

Due to the closure, Board of Directors and Members of Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung has decided to donate the remaining funds from the dialysis centre to other NGO that is running a dialysis centre provided that the NGO is accorded with tax exemption status by Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri.

“It was a difficult moment for us when we don’t have a choice but to close down the dialysis centre. But we took it positively and trying to reach out other NGO who is running haemodialysis centre as well by giving our support. We hope this fund given to both Sabah Kidney Society and Persatuan Hemodialisis Kinabalu, Sabah will help them on their needs, “commented Mr Steven Ong, Chairman of Rotary Club of Tawau Tanjung Haemodialysis Centre Charity Fund.-pr/BNN
