KOTA KINABALU: A Gimpuhut Foundation will be established for the Rungus community especially participants in the Mitarab Gimpuhut Momogun (MGM).
Momogun Rungus Sabah Association (SAMORA) President Dato’ Jelani Hamdan in making the announcement during a soft launching last night said the foundation is being established to look into the welfare of members.
This includes the perpetuation of their language, culture and tradition through education and application, he said adding that it will also look into promoting their traditional handicrafts, costume and fine arts of expressions in the tourism industry.
According to him, they have already been actively involved in promoting their costume and handicrafts in the industry through participation in various tourism promotion including one in London fairly recently.
“We look forward to more participation and this foundation will be of tremendous help in ensuring and encouraging our people to hone their handicraft skills, among others,” he said adding that initially the Foundation will focus more on the Rungus community but will not discount exclusivity.
He also said that the Foundation will not be under SAMORA but a stand alone entity managed by a group of people.
